To those that think WoW is a grindfest.
You're absolutely, horrendously off! After a terrible time blowing through Factions and Nightfall for the 30th time...I thought about some other alternatives to squander away my free time, and I found the answer: World of Warcraft.
Now, I'm not saying WoW is better than GW. In fact, GW still tops my charts as having the most balanced PvP in an MMORPG [if you even consider GW an mmo]. I'm just saying that WoW really paces well in the PvE section, and tops GW's. The story is well structured and has many avenues to explore, and there is absolutely no grinding if you don't want any grinding. Sure, there are get x amount of Murloc Spines (usually a small number anyway) type of quests, but most others are just plain awesome.
Another thing that seperates WoW from GW is the fact that there is always something to work for, other than GW's useless titles. There are many tiers of Raid sets (which are fun to get, because the instances never get old with their stockpiles of fun boss quests to do), and the WoW in general is never empty no matter where you go.
I'm just giving you guys a perspective other than some kiddies and their "OMG GW SUXORS, PlAyt WOW u Fr00b!"
Back to my topic though, I am finally giving this a rest: Quests give you all the experience you need to get to the endgame, and when you DO get to the endgame, just as in GW, many many more things to do open up. You can either just sit back and relax on the front gates of Orgrimmar, dueling with some of your buddies, or proceed to endgame instances in the Outlands. WoW is not a grindfest. Just as in GW, the optional things are there if you want it to.
One of the things that is also missing from GW player's perspectives is that we never look into WoW's forums and listen to the actual players and what they have to say. I advise you to, because it pretty much sums it up: Everyone agrees that the fastest way to level up in WoW is to do the quests.

On no! I am a tube of yoghurt
Seriously though, I can see what you mean. My sister plays WoW, and so far she has never complained about grind, and she has several characters (all mages, for some unkown reason). She scarcely plays at the moment, what with doing her A levels, but from what I've heard, the time she does get in is enough to do a couple of quests and maybe gain a level.
Silk Road Online on the other hand...
Edit: my awful ability to type.

Its not necessarily grinding, but you have to admit a lot of the quest are pretty much the same old quest just with different areas, different mobs, different lvls (Kill 15 bloodelf guardens, 10 bloodelf mages, etc...)(Kill 15 kobolds, 10 laborers, etc...)
Trust me when I say this its not the standard definition of grinding (kill mob, after mob, after mob...) but it is a loose afflitation (basically grind quests... do this quest here, do a similar one there, do another like one over that way)
I am not an expert, but I have played my share of both games... Many a sleepless nites!!!
But Bouldershoulder is right WoW is better than GW in some aspects while GW is better than WoW (but I personally think that GW has a better storyline than WoW... WoWs storyline can be summed up with this phrase... Warcraft 3)(Besides the obvious additon of Burning Cruasades... Draeni???)

I took a break from Gw after 6 months to play wow,and i can tell you that the quests alone(after lvl 30-40) are barrely enough to get to max level, and even the quests are grind imo(90% are fedex quests). I won't even begin on the grind that is needed to get nice gear(epix and stuff)to be on the top PvP charts. Not saying Wow is a bad game,it has many nice features that Gw lacks, but the grind is its big flaw, you can't denie that.

Leveling can get gruesome after a character or so. The new patch, however, has provided a lot of help in regards to leveling (increased XP from monsters and quests increased and improvements to old dungeons.) In general, the new patch has helped a *lot* in terms of helping the casual player.
It's kinda hard to be creative with quests in a persistant world, since it's very limited. Not only that, but when there's sooo many quests in a game one it starts to become hard to be original.
Complaining about the PvP isn't a good point to bring up since its considered more of an afterthought (it's a PvE focused game), and even then it's not much of a "grind". If you and your gear sucks, you'll be pitted against likewise ranked opponents, much like GW is. And while your gear can play a large factor, it's your skill and knowledge of the fight that'll determine your victory or death.
And yeah, it does get a little lengthy from time to time, but this is a pay-to-play MMO. What'd you expect?

The fact that it takes more than 75 hours to reach level cap is a grind for me..
I used to play WoW and honestly it just hated having to do quests alone, or whatever

That doesn't seem all that bad to me. My very first character took a hundred hours just to beat Prophecies. Back then there were no heroes, non-max weapons were commonplace, and virtually everyone was still noobish. It was a lot of fun nonetheless.

WoW isnt a grind? Uhm okay whatever suits your dreamworld that you live in.
Maybe WoW has changed in having less grind and then I remembered, after all the time spent into battlegrounds just to get high warlord was RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing unrealistic. And then attunement quests to DO content such as onyxia, MC and BWL. MC attunemnt was good, its to bad that others didn't follow and that it such as being BIAS towards alliance or horde. eg Onyxia.
But I did give WoW an 2nd chance and I spent some time on my friends character for about 30 mins. After that I found that world PvP is dead, the quests are exactly the same, go Kill X monster and bring X item 20 times to me. I was so bored and im glad I got away from it, maybe the hash reality is that the stuff you require to do in order to do content of the game, has an extreme amount of time consuming. eg. Gear.
Guild Wars didn't even come into a mile away from on how much gear matter more than WoW. Gear matters in order to progress in the game, you NEED X amount of good gear in order to do content and even in PvP too!
I was an warlock from beta to 1.9. Yes I got to 60, yes I did MC and BWL. I remember the queues into order to play the game, 1.5 hours wait, my god I can't even know why I even did continue to play after how much time the game required to play to the full extent.

Our favourite GW fanboi is back eh
Tell me sir, why are so many players enjoying WoW so much then if it's a horrible grindfest. Oh I get it, you will counter me with the typical Blizzard has already strong fanbase and computer players think that there's no good alternative option for a MMO argument and keep playing it even that they suffer internal bleeding / divorces / rejection from social life because of the horrendous grind.
This WoW grindshit is getting bit old don't you think, and as a GW player isn't it bit ironical to speak about grind when pretty much all the GW PvE endgame is about titles.
My 30 cents.

Oh, please GW fanboi is to much. I dislike GW for other reasons, but I do think WoW has displeased more than GW could ever archive.
Yes its true that WoW had a playerbase. However I only expressed why I hate the game, whether the larger part of the gaming community likes the game is irrelevant. Some people like to grind for hours on end, I dont get the same feeling, although saying that WoW doesn't have any grind is wrong because it does and it has a lot of it.
Ironic? Hah, GW PvE is optional grind. But more to the point I mostly PvP than PvE, about 80\20 and many more PvP more than they PvE. But WoW is different, it forces certain aspects to move forward in order for your character to develop. Such as item value. Does GW do this? While GW does have item value, it is so small to even compare it to WoW.

WoW is alright. I found the fedex quests a little dull.
People who say it is a grindfest have either never played the game, or hate the game because they played it too much.

I'm gonna have to agree there. That is some *very* old school WoW, back when it was a little rusty. Just shows how much an online game can change and improve. Have you gotten to Onyxia or AQ, Dreamrunner?

I had to dish out about 50 bucks per campaign, plus an extra 20 for NF collector's edition.

He means free in the idea of No monthly subscriptions
GW is nice because I payed for it like a console game....dealing out cash every month isn't nice and not everyone can do that anyways.
